For Make Me Laugh Monday, hosted by Absolutely Bananas, here is Monty Python’s Birthing Sketch.
I just love these guys. We used to watch MP’s Flying Circus on PBS every Sunday night when I was in junior high.
I saw part of this scene recently in Ricki Lake’s the Business of Being Born, and it reminded me what geniuses they are.
Who knew 20 years after I originally saw this in the Meaning of Life in 1983, I’d had a similar birthing experience at Seattle’s Swedish Hospital. Although the machine that went “PING!” must have been on mute.
Funny, cutting and smart, this clip. Enjoy.
And remember, moms, you’re just not qualified!

OMG – love them . “Run away!!!!!!!!” , “It’s just a flesh wound” and “I’m not quite dead yet” are part of our family’s vocabulary.
Too funny! Thanks for the smile.
Hey, I just watched Business of Being Born, too.
Wow! I can’t believe that this was made 25 years ago. It’s still so timely.
And OMG, that meat cleaver to cut the umbilical cord!
Cutting and clever, for sure!
Thanks for posting this.
Take care,
Stacy
Funny! Its been many years since I’ve seen this.
That’s probably the only time you’ll ever see doctors applaud a hospital administrator in any format.
I love Monty Python.
We are dedicated silly walkers in my family.
Ooh, I just found myself getting mad watching that!
