For Make Me Laugh Monday, hosted by Absolutely Bananas, here is Monty Python’s Birthing Sketch.

I just love these guys. We used to watch MP’s Flying Circus on PBS every Sunday night when I was in junior high.

I saw part of this scene recently in Ricki Lake’s the Business of Being Born, and it reminded me what geniuses they are.

Who knew 20 years after I originally saw this in the Meaning of Life in 1983, I’d had a similar birthing experience at Seattle’s Swedish Hospital. Although the machine that went “PING!” must have been on mute.

Funny, cutting and smart, this clip. Enjoy.

    OMG – love them . “Run away!!!!!!!!” , “It’s just a flesh wound” and “I’m not quite dead yet” are part of our family’s vocabulary.

    Wow! I can’t believe that this was made 25 years ago. It’s still so timely.

    And OMG, that meat cleaver to cut the umbilical cord!
