micro-managing at 4
Since Kid had yet another half-birthday party at school recently (But THIS TIME I knew about it ahead of time! Ha ha! Preschool, you can’t get me TWO years in a row! Last year, you saw me run out panicked after drop-off in search of any remotely fresh bakery cookies; this year, Kid and I made CUPCAKES with SPRINKLES ahead of time! Take THAT! (AND could I have a LONGER parenthetical aside??)), her WHOLE birthday is embedded somewhere in every conversation she has.
She is planning all aspects, just like last year. This time I have not been uninvited…..yet.
Most recently, the party details included the cakes she wanted (3). Said cakes were to include the following themes: doctor, princesses, and Hello Kitty.
Said themes were provided in order to satisfy allll partygoers, girls AND boys AND (*gasp*) girls who don’t like princesses.
With yours truly as scrivener, Kid laid out which CHILD will be partaking of which CAKE. Yes, three separate lists, 16 kids. Who said preschoolers have short attention spans?
My question to you is WHICH CAKE do you think Kid selected for herself?

Half birthday? I think the full birthdays tend to get out of hand with so many parties. If we also had to deal with half birthdays I think I’d lose my tiny, little mind.

Doctor cake?
I can’t say I’m much on adding yet another occassion where I am required to plan a party for a class. In fact, I’m kind of glad the days of taking cupcakes in for real birthdays is past for me.

The half birthdays go all the way through 5th grade. And you have to buy the cake or cookie products, you can’t make them. It’s loads of fun!

I don’t like half birthdays either. But OH the pressure! Imagine if she got ZERO at her half birthday while all the other kids had something! There’d be all that therapy later.
So far, we can still make our own treats. Maybe next year that will change.

Oh. Dear. She is WAY more organized than me! How cute.
What are half birthdays? Celebrating that she’s turning 4.5? We don’t really do that where I live (in The Netherlands.. or we do and I am in for a surprise too, once they go to preschool

Okay, the answer to the cake question is……….
ALL THREE! Yes, she had her name on EACH list.
