here a dog, there a dog: Seattle’s Dog Show

We went to the dog show this past weekend to see the pooches, because being home, letting the same Dog in and out, in and out, all day, just isn’t enough.
We saw all kinds of fuzzy, nervous, uptight types. But the dogs at the end of their leashes were sweet.
I could have stayed all day. Truly. Does that make me a dog show dork?
While watching the agilities trials, the Kid took a few pics.
A few shots actually included dogs in the frame. She has a bright future as a photographer, yes?
Kid’s hand may have been somewhat shaky but those dogs were fast.
Then there were these guys:
“George, where’d you go?”
“Is that you, Martha?”
“George??”
“Martha??”

Doesn’t that last pair make you want to hug them? I find dog shows intriguing, but also I’m a little disurbed by the idea of breeding for mutations that are not necessarrily beneficial to the dog.

I love, love, love the sheepdogs.
I sometimes think I would love to have a dog like that….
Then I think of how freakin’ long it would take to brush that hair. Heck, I can’t even keep the tangles out of my and my daughter’s hair.
Nope, any sheep dog I ever would have would have dreads. Yep, can’t you see a Shaggy D.A. (Did you see that Disney classic as a kid?) crooning, “I shot the sheriff, but I did not make that big doodie?”

Yes, the breeding aspect of the dog show depresses me. I just like to see the dogs.
Those sheepdogs were cute! They kept getting brushed, up and out, for showing, almost teasing their fur! I used to want one, too, back when I was young and not having to brush out anyone’s hair on a regular basis….

I don’t own a dog, so I’ve never been tempted to go to a dog show. Of course, I own two cats but have never been tempted to go to a cat show. I have three fish — no fish show for me (but I do go to aquariums, does that count?)
