the secret of dealing with a playdate gone BAD?

00gk8d-29830784.jpgA drink for the grown-up, not the kids. Although that IS tempting, too…..

A few horrendous playdates have occurred here lately. Bossiness, yelling, feet stamping….and the children aren’t acting nicely either. Mostly, my Kid. She has a hard time sharing her precious treasures, even those items she routinely steps on, kicks around, rips, and crushes. That one-armed McDonald’s doll with pink hair? Sooooo special.

You can tell the playdate is over by the shot glass on the counter. Not that I am indulging during the playdate, unless it’s turned really ugly. I just need to take the edge off when the furor subsides. Even those playdates that aren’t bad leave me twisted in knots as I wait for hours for that tantrum shoe to fall. Any moment it will happen, any moment….

How do parents who don’t drink cope? Any non-alcoholic options? I just can’t think of one. Not until the hubs installs a hot tub for me.

  1. I’ll let you in on a little secret: Chocolate Martini.

    That’s right. I said it. They’re amazing!

  2. Yeah, bad playdates can be the WORST and isn’t it supposed to be fun? Hang in there…they do teach social skills!

Jack n Coke usually does the trick for me…

  3. I prefer the vasectomy ‘n’ Coke.

  4. I found that it helped to have the kids scan their rooms prior to a playdate and hide (in my closet) any toys they were just feeling unprepared to share. But that didn’t keep me from having a beer – I just don’t enjoy palydate time.
