thrill-seeking in midlife

Jump to Comments

wheelies-1.jpgI was never one of those people who HAD to try skydiving. The thought even now makes me want to barf. I did have some thrills backpacking, kayaking, scuba diving and even helicoptering into the wilderness.

Being home all the time on a little island with a 4 year old person and a 6 year old dog, I get fewer thrills. But here are a few that come to mind and make me say, “woo hoo!”

1. Swallowed two or more horse pill-sized vitamins at once without gagging;
2. Took out my contact lenses without washing my hands first;
3. Licked the peanut butter off the knife;
4. Flipped the fish sticks over with my bare naked fingers midway through the ten minutes;
5. Leaned in reeeeaaal close to the Kid when she is bent over and could easily pop up at any moment, breaking my nose with her skull (this also applies to large dogs, too, by the way).

Yeah, the SAHM’s adrenaline soars.

Are you living on the wild side, too? Gettin’ any cheap thrills?

  • hehe – my big thrill for today (eerr now yesterday) was a diaper blowout complements of my nearly four month old daughter that required me to change my shirt and pants.

  • How about this — Hooking up a new video phone that rings when I call it from my cell phone and I actually can see — myself, of course! So far, nobody has a connection so that I can try it out. Now, hopefully, there’s a thrill waiting in my not too distant future….. seeing my kids and grandkids via telephone.

  • Going to bed without flossing.

    Yeah! I’m baaaad.

  • I have been known to . . .

    . . .go grocery shopping with 4 kids in tow (during 5pm “rush hour” at Safeway, no less.
    . . .slide down the wicked metal slide at Waterfront Park.
    . . .pick up a brown glob off the kitchen floor and (assuming it was a chocolate chip) EAT IT!

  • Don’t you chase them around the house? Don’t you try to wrestle them into their clothes? Don’t you have to routinely save them from certain doom? I’d say you’re probably more a daredevil than you thought.

  • Look at all you thrill seekers!

    I forgot I do turn into “Super Mommy” when I save the Kid from getting creamed by a mac truck. That’s always exciting (to me, since she doesn’t notice the impeding harm)!

  • I’m a thrill seeker. I walked onto the pool this weekend. And discovered it’s not quite froze enough to skate on. Woo hoo!

  • I do dangerous mid-life living all the time. I drink orange juice directly from the pitcher when no one’s looking. I fall asleep in a bubble bath. I take on home remodeling projects without getting advice. And I date.

  • Jenn, truly risk-taking! Yikes!

    CS, back up, what is this “bubble bath” of which you speak??
