Online info for parents on Bainbridge Island: what to do, what to do…..
When I am grumpy and the house is getting trashed by my crazed midget (Kid), going out looms as a necessary choice for the continued existence of certain household lifeforms (and we’re not talking fungus, either).
Here are a few online Bainbridge Island, WA resources that I frequently check to see what’s going on nearby for little kids:
Bainbridge Parks and Recreation Dept. — always some good classes to sign the kids up for, if you are Johnny-on-the-spot and register fast, and always (OK, not “always,” more like sometimes, but that should get better once the Battle Point site opens) the open gym times, if you don’t.
Poulsbo Parks and Rec Poulsbo has their version, also, with some classes BI doesn’t have and their own open gym times.
Kitsap libraries — books, puzzles, amusing storytimes, even a pajamas one on certain Tuesday nights, 7pm. I’ve noticed The Bookstore (Eagle Harbor Book Co.) has storytimes occasionally, too (with snacks!), although their website isn’t always up-to-date.
Bainbridge Pavillion movie theater — movies, gotta love ‘em. Is 4 too young for Charlie Wilson’s War? (BTW, I love the Lynwood, too, but their shows are not usually kid-oriented) Pouslbo and Silverdale have movie options, too, if you are feeling adventurous in an “off-island-y” kind of way.
Islandwood — these guys are adding more and more great family activities, crafts, storytimes, performances. Ah, good times, people. Good times.
The relatively new Children’s Museum — they have rotating exhibits, special classes, and always an art table that Kid loves. Honestly, we are not members, so we haven’t gone that often. But Kid loves it when we do. For those cheap people, like moi, they have a Free First Thursday offer to get you hooked!
My Gym — I’ve only been to a party here, but members have lots of options for activities.
The Zone Sportsplex — another indoor facility for that upcoming soccer star in your household.
Casino — always good for some entertainment. Just kidding, people! Kid only helps me with online gambling.
Tides table 2008 — when all else fails (or even before then), take a walk on a rocky beach. Let children straggle far, far behind you.
Weather forecast — this goes along with the tides. Gotta know what you’ll wear and what items you’ll be hunting for on the way back to the car.
I hope this list helps you guys. Let me know of other good options, too!

I don’t know about Bainbridge, but around here when my kids start driving me crazy I shove them outside, lock all the doors and draw closed all the curtains.
