is this a guy thing?
Lately, the hubs has been home, rather than globe trotting, so certain, er, “issues” have arisen. It doesn’t help that I’m still grumpy. Sure, Kid started preschool again, but she has today off and waged WWIII had a playdate that began like an aggravated, stalled-out engine and turned into Satan’s off-trail motocross.
But my question to you, dear reader, is: are these matters due to male/female differences (or did I just choose to marry someone to have fights with forever…..)??
1. Chinese food — DH refuses to share whatever he selects from a Chinese/Thai menu. I, however, grew up having Chinese food be a committee experience. Everyone discusses, caucuses if you will, makes decisions, orders as a group and shares the food.
Meanwhile, DH is like the crazed seagulls in Finding Nemo, “MINE! MINE! MINE!”
2. Silence in car — driving used to be the main time I’d listen to music, especially on a road trip. In fact, certain music seemed made especially for driving, right? DH prefers, yawn, silence.
3. Sensitivity to crunching (by others) — and by crunching, I mean regular eating of food that has a firmer consistency than, say, oatmeal. Just how is a person supposed to chew more quietly?? I can’t help it if my cheeks are thinner or have less insulation. I CLOSE MY LIPS. WHAT ELSE CAN I DO? PRETEND I HAVE NO TEETH, WAIT FOR MY SALIVA TO FOAM AND GUM IT ALL TO DEATH??
4. Wiping kitchen messes with towels, rather than sponges — I cannot count how many towels are permanently trashed due to this. Where I come from, towels were to dry to clean things, like hands. PERIOD. In DH’s world, that job goes to…..his jeans.
If this IS a guy/girl thing, God is REAL FUNNY.
In a spend-the-rest-of-your-life-on-death-row-after-your-homicide-conviction kind of way.
Unless grumpiness becomes a legal defense.

Man, I’ve been a grouch lately too. I’m thinking it must be sugar withdrawl - after my “indulgence” over Christmas, I pretty much quit cold turkey in January. Not a good idea. I should’ve weaned myself slowly - cutting back to just 1/2 dozen cookies a day for the first week, a few daily truffles the second week . . .
As for DH issues - it’s definitely a guy thing. I mean, c’mon. WE FEMALES are clearly even-tempered and without silly issues, right? (Does anyone know a good emoticon to denote “sarcastic snort?”)

ooooooooooooooo, I hadn’t thought about the sugar withdrawal aspect of this! Hmmmmmm. Nah.

I think all DH’s have things that drive us crazy and we somehow still tolerate them. I often think to myself….this is for the rest of my life, argh! I still wouldn’t be married to anyone else though.
Vanilla ice over a warm double chocolate brownie can really, really improve a grumpy mood, I have tested it out.

Cara, I may need that brownie sundae soon considering DH decided to actually read my blog now….. Not the greatest timing….

OMG!!! The hand towel thing must be universally “guy” and nobody bothered to tell me!
My hubs uses it to clean everything!!! Even when there is a sponge, dishscrub brush, and rag available. Makes me crazy!!!!
Glad to know I am not alone though.

#1 Neither one of us (my wife or I) care to share our selection of chinese food (or any other food for that matter). If someone gets something nasty then its a case of “Sucks to be you!” Tasting is acceptable. For the record, sometimes I will be a gentleman and swap meals if she gets something really awful.
#2 I want music or at least talk radio…..She wants silence.
#3 Really blows my mind because we have this argument frequently. I’m the loud chewer though. She actually has me so paranoid about my chewing that I wonder if there is something weirdly acoustical about my mouth that amplifies the sound or something. Or maybe she (and your DH) are just insanely anal.
#4 Does not apply. We both use sponges (or paper towels)
Hope this helps!

Thanks Lori and Jeff for your experiences! It helps to know other couples have these issues. That’s why I wrote this in the first place.
What can be done about the crunching?? I just don’t get it. I want some audio expert to come in measure the db’s of our eating to find out if either one of us is truly louder!

Hi. The Crunching?
OMG.
Homeboy came back into my life three weeks ago and totally threw off my groove.
Pisses me off.
What I figure is that there’s not much else major to fight about so we find incredibly lame stupid things to fight about.
Dumb huh?
