holiday help in our flooded Washington backyard

2096599976_f3928c5fa8_o.jpgProving her daringness, Daring Young Mom blogger Kathryn just posted complete with pictures about her experience lending help in flooded Lewis county, Washington. Compared to that area’s millions in damage, our little island fared well in the recent downpour. Sure, I had my visions of the south end becoming its own island due to a certain low spot in the main road, but overall we are drying out with minimal harm. I mean, we didn’t even lose power for heaven’s sake (which should count as a holiday miracle because a sneeze usually seems to do it)!

Meanwhile, although I-5 has reopened, many folks, particularly in Lewis county, have homes and businesses closed up, mudded up or generally unusable. Innumerable personal items have been ruined and lost. In addition to the usual route of Red Cross financial donations, I am listing a few other organizations and individuals taking donations of cash, clothes, cleaning supplies, toys and any other basic needs for comfortable living.

The Lewis county newspaper has additional information.

The Salvation Army and the United Way are offering assistance.

Locally, owners of Dream Dinners of Poulsbo, Washington are accepting donations at their store now through Dec 22nd. They say food, clothing, toys, cleaning supplies, gift cards, hygiene products, blankets, and baby supplies are welcome. Most needed are gift cards from Safeway, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, or K-mart. CALL 360-779-0054 to verify someone will be at the store.

If you are short on cash or extra clothing items, food donations to a food bank are also an option.

Be grateful for all you have and share. Real needs could be filled.

Let’s spread some of that holiday cheer, people, and mobilize!

  • My hubby is taking a bunch of boys down on Saturday to shovel mud out of people’s homes & businesses. A friend of ours went last week and was overwhelmed by the devastation.
