more hot drinking…..
In addition to the tea I’ve been drinking, I love hot chocolate. Today, it’s rainy and breezy outside, so I am making an instant hot chocolate mix.
I got this recipe from Food Network star Alton Brown. It is short, easy and brilliant, with no nondairy crap or other garbarge you find in instant (as in “just add water”) hot cocoa packages at the store. I highly recommend it! You can double or triple it and give it as gifts, too.
Here it is:
2 C powdered sugar
1 C cocoa powder (dutch processed preferred)
2 1/2 C powdered milk
1 t salt
2 t cornstarch
1 pinch cayenne (it adds a little umph but does not make it “hot” hot cocoa)
Mix all together and there you have it! Put about 1/4 C or more per mug, depending on how rich you like it.
If you make it, please visit again and tell me how it was!

I wonder what the cornstarch is for…to keep things from clumping? I like my hot chocolate with a bit of kick..I’ll bet the cayenne makes it PERFECT.

It’s possibly there to thicken (?), but may not be necessary at all…. I heard someone say they just mix cocoa, sugar and powdered milk.
