Learn-A-Word Wednesday: sciolism \SY-uh-liz-uhm\
noun:
Superficial knowledge; a superficial show of learning.
Sciolism comes from Late Latin sciolus, “a smatterer,” from diminutive of Latin scius, “knowing,” from scire, “to know.” One who has only superficial knowledge is a sciolist.
This sounded so much better than saying I don’t really know much of anything….. Most importantly, now you know “smatterer” is a word, too.
Kid is a different kind of smatterer. Of paint. Of liquid soap. Of foamy toothpaste.
Oh, wait. Maybe that’s “splatterer.”
[Hey! If you want to join the L.A.W. Wednesday, write your post and link to it here. New words, old words, particularly relevant words for you, whatever tickles your verbal fancy!]

I think we need to create some drinking game where you have to use that in conversation!

I think after a few drinks, just saying this word will get messy!
