Do you other bloggers ever feel this?

The male blogger I know never would have a problem with being at a loss for words. Sometimes, I do, especially if I meet someone on the island who says they read this blog.

That kills my end of the conversation. They’ve read it all. I got no other material.

As I speak, I worry I’m repeating myself even though I’ve never met this person before.

Can blogging push you away from direct human interaction?

  • Hmmm…I don’t know. I never seem to be able to shut up about anything, whether the written word or the spoken word. I consider my blog an extension of me, but not ALL of me. Does that make sense?

  • If a total stranger came up to me and said he/she read my blog, I’d freak out. But I’m funny that way.

  • Well then Scott start freaking cuz I’ve scoped out your site on several occasions and I’m pretty sure we’ve never met.

  • Jenn, I totally agree about the blog, but the entertaining stories, the stories for general public consumption, those are here already! What’s left? Bitching, moaning, boring…..

Scott, you are funny. What can I say? Because I live on an island, I’ve just become a local celebrity. NOT!! (and Sheri’s gonna come find you! lookout!)

  • you’re not alone. I’m right there with you.

  • I can’t say for sure, as I didn’t have any direct human interactions before I started blogging. Well, outside my family. And friends …

  • That cartoon would make more sense if he didn’t actually just speak a complete sentence.

  • I generally keep my blogging interactions and my real-world interactions separate. Except among my friends who post to my blog or let me know they lurk.

There’s a whole world of things to talk about, and no reason to ever be out of material. Talk about high school. Or bedsheets. Or fast food. Or skin creams. Or property values. Or architecture. Or hiccups remedies. Or baby names. Or cheese. Or travel. Or beer.

  • I completely agree…I’ve found that I am actually blogging during conversations now…it’s like I’m some sort of stand up comedian, amidst a conversation, yet nobody bought tickets to hear jokes. Truly pathetic.

  • Experiences. For themselves or or to blog about it?

  • Ohhhhh, Dawn, good question. I can honestly say I have not done something merely in order to have a topic to write about, but I have finished doing something and thought “oh, I HAVE to write about that!”

Marion, I think that would make conversing even harder! The pressure!! BE FUNNY!! BE ENTERTAINING! SAY SOMETHING GOOOOOOD!

Diesel, all true, comic gets an “F” for structure.

Jim, I’m taking notes for next time…..except for high school. Who wants to remember that? Ick.

  • I treat blogging like a cross between having your pants fall to your ankles in public and a conversation storage center. Meaning, I think of things I like to talk to friends about, but of course I’m a married father who works to much so my friends are never around.

So I store conversations online hoping they’ll “stop by” and converse (Conversation Storage Center). But this method means that anyone, complete strangers, can stop by and get in on the conversation and your personal life (Pants Falling Around Ankles in Public).

  • Will, I totally agree!! Great idea for storage center!
