I thought I liked that song….

img_2899.jpgWhile we still love the Backyardigans, we (and by we, I mean Kid) have a new favorite show lately — Peep and Quack on TLC. I found it thanks to Tivo (all praise Tivo, so say we all!). I had a little book entitled Peep and Quack when I was a child. We have been reading it and several other little books that my mother actually kept (and could find) for us when we were in Dallas this spring. They are small, creased, paperbacked treasures. Rereading these books is like remembering a dream you once had….it seems familiar but shadowy, like in a fog…..did I dream this….did this actually happen…..? They have a charming formality to their style and were obviously written in a another time, another generation (ok, couple of generations, but don’t be snotty). The collection includes one ironically entitled “Wendy Won’t Eat.” Wendy blows away. Great children’s tale. Not eating has never been an issue for me, ever since.

Besides the fact that Joan Cusack is the narrator (a fact, amazingly pointed out to me by DH who usually is clueless about such things), I found out today that that peppy opening song for the show is sung by none other than Taj Mahal. Cool. I thought I liked it. Kid likes it too and yells it out each time.

Now, we’ll turn off the tv and go outside, really, (since Tivo is never off!)….

  • It’s embarrassing to admit, but I love Peep and the Big Wide World. The little animated animals are so cute! Except Quack doesn’t look like a duck, go figure?!

I don’t have Tivo, I have DVR. Tivo sounds much better!

  • Yeah, there’s no real “feathery” feel to these animals (even tho they’re birds!), but they’re cute somehow anyway. I like Quack’s sassiness!

    TIVO rules!
