A Pyrrhic victory is so called after the Greek king Pyrrhus, who, after suffering heavy losses in defeating the Romans in 279 B.C., said to those sent to congratulate him, “Another such victory over the Romans and we are undone.”
2 things: 1) I thought the “Pyrrhic” part of this was based on a myth, not an actual person, so that surprised me (and you too, I am sure!). 2) this is an interesting, ironic concept, if only I could think how it might apply to a modern day situation………
