Crash-Bam-Bing!

What did you do this weekend? Uh-huh, sounds fun. Me? Oh, my weekend sucked the big SUCK. My computer and website had a head-on collision and crashed. Both. Did I have a handy backup? Uh, nooooooooo. Let this be a lesson to you all. Even though it is about as much fun as vacuuming, backing up, turns out, is a good idea. Oh-vey! We drove all the way to Silverdale so the geeks at Best Buy could help me under my warranty. He looked at my machine, looked at me and was all Dan Rather, bad news. But! I could use the recovery disk to perform a “nondestructive” repair and not lose anything. OK. Sounds doable. I go home, fix a stiff one, and pull out that recovery disk. Ten seconds in and it tells me I am about to lose EVERYTHING. Where’s my “nondestructive” repair? Where’s the love? This is what I get for doing anything computer related, downloading programs, dinking around with stuff I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT, at the worst of all times…MERCURY IS RETROGRADE. Have I learned nothing? That time I bought the leather purse/backpack I don’t like, that vacation rental house I arranged, that appointment I had to cancel, the blow off from the friend, all retrograde periods…. Don’t buy things, don’t plan things, don’t sign contracts. That’s what those “wackos” into astrology say. And I believe them! Again. Now, pardon me while I reconstruct my email accounts, bookmarks, and install a few dozen programs.

  1. You have my sympathy. Its all well and good until something goes wrong….the wheels usually fall off my cart only when I’m going 80 mph to somewhere important.

  2. So happy you made it back on line! You can now call yourself a “survivor” — Philosophically, glancing back, just look what you learned! I guess we all would really rather learn things by reading and avoid the painful experience of doing, but the old definition of life: “It’s just one damn thing after another,” regrettably is true! Oh, well, we don’t want to be bored, right? Anyway, we love the new stories and the photo.

  3. I can so relate to this and it usually happens when something important is happening on your website, like the time you can actually make some moola or somethin! Had to laugh about the Best Buy comment. I am living life on the edge because I have a brand new laptop from best buy with windows vista and couldn’t justify the 200 bucks extra warranty :) its a retrograde year!!!

  4. Oh, Lisa, you are probably better off without the warranty, I think. Best Buy would not try to diagnose anything on the phone because of the warranty! I had to take it in and then they only offered to reformat my whole computer (which is what ended up happening anyway). Plus the wrong info about my recovery disk. Big help! They did say Trend Micro has a better antivirus than Norton, so I switched to that (keep fingers crossed!). Hopefully that advice is right! The geek said visiting lots of blogs can make you pick up viruses. Beware of unprotected blog reading!
