eau de low tide

I have been trying to take a picture of this Spotted Towhee guy while he is at the feeder here, but either the light, the other birds or the dog conspire against me. Here’s a shot from online. They are a lot bigger than the Junkos and Chickadees, but everyone seems to eat together. A regular melting pot. Hmmm, why am I am suddenly craving coq au vin….?

In addition to birdwatching, the girls (Kid and dog) and I went out to the beach today. Yes, there was snow but there was also SUN! Nice! Guess what I learned while outside…..freezing cold temperatures don’t freeze the stink out of rotting fish (or crab or whoever). Guess who already knew this and rolled and rolled and rolled in it. Did I mention she rolled in it? No, not the Kid! Then, this wet, smelly dog stunk up the car on the way back home. And by “smelly” I mean, peee-uuuuuu, gag, choke, eye-watering “smelly.” I thought she might have carried some part of someone back into the car, too, but no, just dog. Slimy, smell-coated dog. After 2 baths, yes 2, she still smelled. Smelled, like you knew she was behind you before you heard her approach. A regular Pig Pen of our own. Post baths, the baking soda application began. Baking soda may be a good, environmentally friendly deodorant, but against this stench, it was the equivalent of a teaspoon of Evian spritzed on a Malibu house fire. Finally, she got a real perfume spray treatment. A lovely scent called tea & oranges (not sure if you are supposed to wear it while eating those things or what. It does not smell like either one). Now, we have a new smell, tea & oranges & fish guts. Call Macy’s!

  1. and its all my fault! It was so nice out there today. It looks like its a go tomorrow but who knows what could hold them up. if it happens it will be early.
Through Rich Passage around 8:15 a.m. or so. If its delayed and it goes past 9, I’ll give you a buzz. We are going to try to be out there but I’m not going to call you before 9:00 a.m.

  2. It’s not your fault! Except for the part about asking us to come watch submarine races! No, really, stinkiness is the risk you take with an off-lease dog at the beach. We still would like to see a submarine go by!

  3. The word is spelled; LEASH, as in,
an off-leash dog at the beach. A lease is something you sign, when you rent an appartment.
    Just trying to help.
Have a nice day, and keep up the good work.
I hope the smell is gone.
Did you quit your other blog?

  4. Typos! That’s what I get for posting a quick comment at night! (actually, the dog does not have a leash or a lease) The smell is fading, orrrrrrrrr it has spread so much around us that I don’t notice it anymore…. As for the other blog, I am on the fence about what to do. I did not approach the PI to be “the voice of Bainbridge” (and get flamed for it!). They suggested I write about Bainbridge. I feel freer over here. Thank you for all your support over there, LGM! Stay tuned!

  5. I knew it had to be something like that.
