eau de low tide

I have been trying to take a picture of this Spotted Towhee guy while he is at the feeder here, but either the light, the other birds or the dog conspire against me. Here’s a shot from online. They are a lot bigger than the Junkos and Chickadees, but everyone seems to eat together. A regular melting pot. Hmmm, why am I am suddenly craving coq au vin….?

In addition to birdwatching, the girls (Kid and dog) and I went out to the beach today. Yes, there was snow but there was also SUN! Nice! Guess what I learned while outside…..freezing cold temperatures don’t freeze the stink out of rotting fish (or crab or whoever). Guess who already knew this and rolled and rolled and rolled in it. Did I mention she rolled in it? No, not the Kid! Then, this wet, smelly dog stunk up the car on the way back home. And by “smelly” I mean, peee-uuuuuu, gag, choke, eye-watering “smelly.” I thought she might have carried some part of someone back into the car, too, but no, just dog. Slimy, smell-coated dog. After 2 baths, yes 2, she still smelled. Smelled, like you knew she was behind you before you heard her approach. A regular Pig Pen of our own. Post baths, the baking soda application began. Baking soda may be a good, environmentally friendly deodorant, but against this stench, it was the equivalent of a teaspoon of Evian spritzed on a Malibu house fire. Finally, she got a real perfume spray treatment. A lovely scent called tea & oranges (not sure if you are supposed to wear it while eating those things or what. It does not smell like either one). Now, we have a new smell, tea & oranges & fish guts. Call Macy’s!
