hello 2007

Oh, I am old. New Year’s Day does not start at 10:30am with a hangover anymore. It starts at 7am (if I am lucky) with a Kid waking me up. We missed the parades on TV today and did not watch football games. The rest of the day just seemed like any other day except that our usual outlets for energy release were not open. Weeeeeeee. Our new sport for rainy days: balloon volleyball. Parts needed: one regular sized balloon, deep breath, nimble fingers to tie knot. Kid loved hitting it around and Becca got all perky, too. We just have to make sure Becca does not pin it against the furniture and pop the “ball.” With the rest of the balloons from the package DH got, Kid filled a new wooden box. You may think multi-colored balloons all loose in an open box would be fun, but you would be wrong. What you and I forget is that it is SO much better if you crush up crackers with the balloons. Then there is cracker, there is balloon, there is cracker, AND your dog will relentlessly chase you around the entire house while you scream. Yes, happy new year to all.

  • I just had a conversation with a new friend here in Fairfield about how New Year’s is a non event as you get older. That needs to change. I need to figure a way to get some tradition into New Year’s. I have a year to think about it ;)

  • Let us know what you come up with! It is hard to make new rituals but something is definitely needed.
